Mr. Sawyer! Your Arabic is better than your British history. More Interregnum confusion here. Charles I, not Oliver Cromwell, lost his head. Cromwell ruled the Protectorate (during the Interregnum) and died in his bed. His son, Richard, resigned as Lord Protector, and the Charles II was recalled with very little blood letting.
Don’t you hate how people are more likely to leave a comment when you got something wrong? It’s not fair at all, especially when you say intelligent things on so many subjects. You guys are very smart and entertaining as usual. I recognized the theme from Disney’s Robin Hood in the intro. My brother and I could recite the whole thing.
Chris, I’m so sorry about the botched episode. I once recorded a whole episode, only to discover that the TV in the apartment above had somehow transmitted down the light fixture from which my mic was hanging. It was inaudible to human ears, but it came through in the background of the recording. Very discouraging, even without all kinds of post-production involved. I’m sure the next episode will be worth waiting for.
Was also prompted to come on by the Oliver Cromwell comment, but it seems I’ve been bettered above. So I’ll shut up…
But let me add my name to the list of people who’d buy a book. This is the first podcast where I’ve felt that way – I listened to ‘Playing for Keeps’ and enjoyed the story, but not well enough to want to revisit it in book form, whereas I think you’ve done something that is worth going back to a second time.
(Please say hello to Mr Sawyer as well; I’m also enjoying Antithesis, which I came to via your recommendation. I think one advantage you have over him is that Metamor revolves around a relatively small number of characters, and there are generally only 3 or 4 things going on in parallel, and it’s (so far) a slightly less of a tangled web, which I find makes it far easier for me to follow when listening whilst doing other things. Antithesis is more complicated, and sometimes when we go back to a character it’s hard to remember exactly who they are, what they’re up to and who wants to kill them, which is my main criticism of an otherwise fascinating, well written and well read story. I wish I could suggest a solution; possibly have in the show notes ‘We then cut to X, who we last saw in episode n when they Y…”, which I think was suggested in a previous feedback show. )
PS. As a Brit, if this gets read out I expect a suitable accent. Please do not disappoint…
