The musings, ramblings and stories of author Chris Lester
Beacon

This was originally intended for use in Metamor City; one of my protagonists would hear a singer-songwriter playing it at a little coffee shop and see his own situation reflected in the lyrics. The story ended up going in a different direction, but I enjoyed putting together the song. As might be expected, it’s written in a minor key and has a heavy maritime vibe.
All hands on deck — it looks like rain
The storms have come for me again
Batten down the hatches, mates
And pray that we survive the day
I thought I knew the way from here
My course was set, it seemed so clear
But now it seems I’ve lost my way
Guess I need someone to save me…
I’m looking for something I just can’t see
Trying to touch what is just out of reach
I’m tossed by the waves and I’m lost at sea
Be my beacon, lead me back to me
Well, the ship I’m in was made for two
And together we sailed into the blue
But she threw me to an angry sea
The day she ran away from me
And now my life is tempest-tossed
No land in sight, all hands were lost
I’m clinging to you ’cause you’re all I see
Can you be the one to save me?
I’m looking for something I just can’t see
Trying to touch what is just out of reach
I’m tossed by the waves and I’m lost at sea
Be my beacon, lead me back to me
