MCP SE03 - Make Believe, Part 1

Posted by Raven on 23 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: Artax, Caitlin, Kate, Levinson, Podcast Episodes, Tunstall

A lot of people in Metamor City know about Artax, the mysterious and curmudgeonly wizard who runs the SPELLS 4 U magic shop. The number of people who actually know him is much, much smaller — and when Artax is forced to mentor a young wizard with a boatload of power and a major chip on his shoulder, he feels more alone than ever. His visions seem to hint at a dark future for this budding spellcaster — can Artax get through to him before the hothead becomes Artax’s own undoing? A look inside the head of our favorite wizard, courtesy of Bryan Watson.

Next time on The Metamor City Podcast:

In the conclusion of “Make Believe”, Artax faces down the being that threatens the city — and wouldn’t you know it, Tunstall manages to make things even more complicated for the old man. Until then, keep it on the bright side!

And the good reports keep rolling in…

Posted by Raven on 20 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: Announcements

The 2008 finalists for the Parsec Awards have been announced, and I couldn’t be happier. A lot of my best buds in the podcasting community have made it to the Final Five in their respective categories, including Tee Morris (Best Podcast Novel, Best Writing-Related Podcast), Christiana Ellis (Best Audio Drama, Best Comedy Podcast), and the mighty Mur Lafferty (Best Podcast Novel, Best Writing-Related Podcast, Best Novella). What really has me excited, though, is that Metamor City has made two appearances in the finals: Best Short Story (for “Huntress”) and Best Magazine or Anthology Podcast (for The Metamor City Podcast as a whole).

I was up against some bloody stiff competition this year, and I still am. Scott Sigler has three of the five finalists for Best Short Story, and the fourth (”Delve”) comes from Variant Frequencies, which has never yet been defeated in that category. I’m still hoping I can pull off an upset win, but in company like that, it truly is an honor just to be nominated. I can’t wait to see how everything turns out!

Announcements and thank-yous

Out of the wilds of Berkeley, California, head producer Chris Lester chimes in with a thank-you to everyone who helped The Metamor City Podcast to win the Fall 2008 Podcast Peer Award for Best Production. There’s also a brief status update on the podcast hiatus.

BONUS: Interview with Polyamory Weekly

Posted by Raven on 07 Aug 2008 | Tagged as: Interview, Just For Fun

Two weeks ago I had the good fortune to spend a night at Cunning Minx’s flat in Chicago, and while I was there she took me into her recording booth and talked to me about Metamor City for Polyamory Weekly. We discussed alternative social systems, optimized reproductive strategies, telepathic super-organisms, and why it sucks to be a female elephant seal. It’s good stuff. :)
